This post needs a disclaimer so here it is:
I AM RUBBISH AT POLITICS!
Also, this photo was taken in my home town of Newcastle
(Treb = 3 shots)
“Why is she writing about politics?” I hear you cry, either because all the posts you’ve read so far on here have been about eyeliner or, you think I must have a death wish. I know it’s risky writing about political matters, however I’m not claiming to be great at it, I just have an interest and I like to share my opinions. That’s what blogging is all about and a bit of controversy is okay, right? Anyhow, I do not mean to offend anyone, this is just an opinion.
So the latest Trump headline? … The Muslim Ban!
First things first … it isn’t a Muslim ban. The official executive order doesn’t actually mention the words ‘Muslim’ or ‘ban’ for a start, what IS in fact happening is a 90 day TEMPORARY suspension while Trump reviews the current vetting system.
Isn’t that a good thing? Regardless of what country you’re from. Safety of our borders should be a priority. Every foreigner that enters any country should be vetted and that isn’t racist in the slightest. In fact, wasn’t this the most occurring theme in our own EU referendum?
Anyways, that’s a whole different kettle of fish all together. Getting back on track, the executive order names 7 countries. Iran – Iraq – Libya – Somalia – Sudan – Syria and Yemen. These countries have been TEMPORARILY denied access to the USA for 90 days.
This has meant that refugees have been halted from entering the USA and people with green cards have also been deported back to these countries.
So – what the media have took from this is? TRUMP IS BANNING ALL MUSLIMS.
Has he really though?
The countries named above are riddled with war. It is not a ban against Muslims. It is a “temporary ban” against terror linked countries.
If it was a hate act against Muslims specifically, then wouldn’t he have banned countries with the highest Islamic populations, such as Indonesia, India, Pakistan, Egypt, Turkey?
Countries like Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, the most stable Islamic countries, are NOT banned. Not one single Muslim from any of these countries is “banned.”
I can’t help but feel that a lot of people voicing up are jumping on the band-wagon.
Two band-wagons in fact. The RACISM/RELIGION bandwagon and the TRUMP bandwagon.
I hate to say it but have we have went bonkers over political correctness? We’re terrified to say anything incase someone somewhere gets offended. Surely we should all be adult enough to have polite, informative, constructive conversations and debates which we can actually also learn stuff from?
Do a bit research first. If you STILL have the same opinion after looking in to things then that’s absolutely fine. It’s an educated opinion and you’re entitled to it. For the love of God though, don’t just believe everything you hear on the news or read on the internet.
What about Obama’s 2011 immigration order? Where he banned Irakis from entering the USA for 6 months.
YES, this was a direct response to a terror threat from an Iraki terror group.
But, is the Islamic State saying they are going to smuggle in trained soldiers via refugees not enough of a credible threat?
Where were the Obama protests? This is all just food for thought guys.
Obama was a fantastic president. But he still dropped hundreds of bombs on Muslim countries…
Some even argue that Obama armed the Jihadis that were responsible for starting the civil war in Syria THAT STARTED the refugee crisis in the first place. Most people were in favour of this. No protests. If there were, you didn’t hear about them in the media.
Countries such as Japan, South Korea, Russia and Saudi Arabia have all banned refugees, yet no one has mentioned that?
People just do not like Trump. Everyone loved Obama. Perhaps with valid reason but not with out the aid of extensive media coverage.
The fact of the matter is – Trump IS President. Can’t change that. To be honest, it’s taken me this long to realise that he is actually a human and not just a funny Facebook meme.
Yes, he has said and did some questionable things, not denying that. On this occasion though, I feel he is attempting to tackle terrorism and fair game to him, is doing WHAT HE SAID HE WOULD DO.
I don’t envy his or any other leaders job in the slightest. Every decision made isn’t going to please everyone and the issues that need tackling are way too complex for a simple solution. So, I hope he does well.
We will see, but this post wasn’t about whether or not we like Trump or not. It was about not just believing something because you read it somewhere or because that’s what’s in the news.
Anyhow, I’d love to hear other peoples thoughts and opinions on this, even if you’ve read that and thought “shut up Ema!” which maybe you have, and that’s fine. This is just my opinion.
The next post will be something a bit more light hearted I promise, but how can these subjects not get your pulse racing?
Or is that just me being over-opinionated again (trololol) will I ever learn. Anyhow, until next time chaps!
